#N bursa of Fabricius, sex hormone, B cell, apoptosis, bursopoietin, bursin
#T The present study was carried out to determine the effect of sex hormone
s
 (SH) on reticular epithelial cell(REC) production/secretion of
bursopoietin(BP) by using the techniques of in situ hybridization and
quantitative HPLC. The results were as follows:(a) the RECs which staine
d
positive for BP-mRNA tended to group together, and BP-mRNA expression wa
s
observed exclusivery in their cytoplasm; (b)SH treatment caused a
progressive loss of the number of BP-mRNA-positive cell; (c) the
production of BP by RECs was significantly inhibited by SH treatment;(d)
premature B cell apoptosis was also induced by SH treatment. The above
results clearly indicate that SH directly modulate RECs to produce BP
and B cell maturation.
