#T It has been described that the subclavian artery of the mammalian anterior limb derives from the 7th intersegmental artery, and the axillary artery originates from the arterial network between the lateral branches of the intersegmental arteries or from the secondary branches of the primary stem (the axis artery) .
The estrus cycle of female rats were strictly controlled and many embryos were obtained from 96 impregnated rats at several stages of embryos (10.0 days - 20.4 days, especially 10.5 days - 13.0 days of embryos were obtained at 0.1 day or shorter intervals). Embryos were treated by following methods: 1, Injection of Berlin blue dye solution via heart or via umbilical artery; 2, Staining nerves by 2H3 anti-neurofilament antibody (DSHB) on the whole mount embryos which had been injected with the dye; 3, Acryl-resin injection for SEM observation of the casts of arteries.
The first sprout of the primary arterial trunk of the anterior limb was observed at 10.5 days embryos before the limb bud formation. From that stage, variable number (1-5) of arteries were directly given off from the lateral surface of the dorsal aorta. These arteries were not the branch of the intersegmental artery. Then they formed the primary network in the limb bud which drained through the umbilical vain, and some of them degenerated. Each of them had 2-3 roots of origin which gradually moved to the origin of the intersegmental artery and combined with it, but until the 12.0 days, they passed ventrally across the post-cardinal vein. The nerves did not reached the limb bud until 11.75 days. While the axis artery was formed in the primary network at 11.0 days, the translocation of the roots continued until 12.1 days, then a single trunk with a single root looking like the lateral branch of the 7th intersegmental artery remained in the limb bud.
